SUPER ANGLER: DEAN CAIN: It turns out that superman
is a super angler...we'll explain on Passport to Texas.

Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife

We're not so different than celebrities. Take Dean Cain,
for example. He may have played superman on television,
and had starring roles in Hollywood movies, but he loves to
go fishing, and has since he was a boy.

"To me that's just a huge part of my upbringing, and I want
to share that with my son. And I think it's important that people
share that with their children."

Cain was this year's honorary chairman of National Fishing
and Boating week in June, sponsored by the Recreational
Boating and Fishing Foundation. He agreed to participate
because..

"If you talk to some of the kids today, and you ask them,
'have you ever caught a fish?' - half of them just shake
their heads 'no.'"

Cain, who has a five year old son whom he regularly takes
fishing, says compared to years past, kids and families have
lost their connection to nature and to one another...something
a fishing trip can help remedy.

"The environment - you certainly understand that a lot better
when you catch a fish you're going to eat. Families will surely
take that away from it. Kids will have an understanding of
conservation and taking care of the environment. You take a
family and stick 'em on a boat for six hours on a fishing trip,
they'll probably spend more quality time during that trip than
they do during any normal week. They're going to talk about
things, they're going to be involved in an activity together, and
they'll probably draw themselves a lot closer. And I'm sure
they'll find that they'll want to that more often with each other."
