Expo: They say everything is bigger in Texas and so
it doesn't come as any surprise that the largest free
outdoor recreational extravaganza in the nation is held
in right here. We'll tell you more coming up on Passport
To Texas.

Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife.

For one weekend in October, 35 acres of East Austin are
literally transformed into a outdoor recreation paradise-with
the Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo. Ernie Gammage is the event
organizer.

"We hold Expo because we believe that the best way to get
people involved in the conservation of the outdoors is through
recreation. If you play in it, you care about it. So you
come out to Expo and you learn how to play in it. You can
do it all at Expo. It's a great family event."

And best of all - it's free. On October first and second,
the grounds of Texas Parks and Wildlife come alive with
hundreds of exhibits and hand-on activities. Learn about
camping, talk to representatives from state parks. Expo
visitors can even try their hands at two full days fishing,
hunting, rock climbing and kayaking-and even learn about
one of the state's most legendary battles.

"In our state park area we will be having a presentation
with re-enactors of the San Jacinto battleground and monument
and we will have a lot of great artifacts that have been
discovered there in the last year or so, never before seen
by the public."

Back this year is the very popular Wildlife Photography
tent. Internationally known photographers will be on hand
to talk to amateur shutter-bugs about capturing the
best outdoor images.
