Hummingbird Book: We'll open the book on the hummingbirds of Texas. That's coming up on Passport To Texas. Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife. With the recent sighting of a rare white-eared hummingbird near Lubbock, an increasing number of Texans are on the lookout for the tiny species in their neighborhoods. Thanks to a joint effort between Texas Parks and Wildlife and Texas A&M Press it's now easier to discover which birds call the area home, with the book, Hummingbirds of Texas. "Lots of color photographs of hummingbirds, lots of color drawings of hummingbirds. All 18 species that have been found in Texas. There's information on hummingbird gardens, and hummingbird events across the state..." Mark Klym is the co-author of the book, along with Parks and Wildlife ornithologist Cliff Shackleford and Madge Lindsay, the executive director of Audubon Mississippi, and the founder of the all-volunteer Texas Hummingbird Round-up. "Through volunteers and individuals we learn more and more about these birds." Volunteers in the Round-up monitor the birds to learn more about their range and feeding habits. And since it's a statewide program, several sets of eyes are needed to make it successful. "I really can use volunteers from the Panhandle, West Texas, but we can use volunteers from anywhere."
