Pumpkin Carving Contest: One state park hopes to carve out an interest in its wildlife. That's coming up on Passport To Texas. Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife. At the Wyler Aerial Tramway State Park visitors ride a gondola taking them up to the top of 56-hundred foot Ranger Peak. But the park is hoping a unique take on an upcoming holiday will encourage folks to discover what it has to offer at ground level. "Our first annual wildlife pumpkin-carving contest. It incorporates the Halloween and the month of October and focuses the attention on the wildlife and the mountains of the area." Nancy Scarantino is a Park Ranger at the Wyler Aerial Tramway. The park is encouraging anyone to carve an owl, coyote or even a bat-o-latern for the contest. But the creativity doesn't stop there. "We get everything from mountain lions, to mule deer, fox, ringtail cats, skunks, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, scorpions." Prizes will be awarded to the most creative gourds. "First prize is a pass to the Wyler Aerial Tramway which allows you three trips, year-round for a family of four plus a goodie bag with neat things from the gift shop. Second prize is a free trip up the tram and an interpretive tour given to a family of four and third prize is a t-shirt and a goodie bag from the Wyler Aerial Tramway State Park."
