RANCH MANAGEMENT SEMINAR: A ranch management seminar to help ranchers negotiate changing needs ... we'll explain on Passport to Texas ... ______________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife Texas' ranching heritage evolved over time to integrate wildlife into management plans. "Certainly, wildlife is an integral part of all ranching, especially in Texas. But needs to be all over the United States and all over the world." Dr. Barry Dunn is Executive Director of the King Ranch Institute for Ranch Management -- at Texas A&M University in Kingsville. "The emphasis has been -- the big buck is what everybody's after. And so, should you develop a harvest strategy and a nutritional strategy to promote a few very high scoring bucks, or should a person adopt a strategy for a general population, and have a few trophy bucks but also have more normal sized animals." The Institute located next to the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Center puts it in a unique position to help ranchers with wildlife questions. And on October 21st and 22nd, the Institute will present a Symposium ... the theme of which is Tools for Ranch Management. "It's a great chance to not only learn from some super people in the industry, but also to get to know other ranchers and share experiences and problems and solutions. And, also tour King Ranch, and see how they're using fire management, what their approach is to quality versus trophy deer management. So it's a real hands on experience, too."
