CELEBRATION OF THE MOUNTAINS: It's a Celebration of the Mountains ... and we'll tell you about it ... on Passport to Texas ... ________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife If you've dreamed of flying like a bird, you'll come close when you soar a mile to the top of Ranger Peak inside a gondola at Wyler Aerial Tramway State Park in El Paso. "You can see three states and two countries from the top of Ranger Peak. We can see new Mexico from the north, and of course Texas, and you can see the state of Chihuahua in the country of Mexico to our south." Nancy Scarantino is park interpreter. The park, located in the Franklin Mountains, is in the middle of El Paso. And throughout October, the entire area participates in Celebration of the Mountains. "At our park site, every weekend in the month of October, we'll have master naturalists onsite; we'll be doing special interpretive tours. And then on the weekend of October 22 and 23, we're offering a $2-dollar discount off all tickets to ride the aerial tramway. And on that particular weekend, we're going to have wildlife exhibits, interpretive tours given by park rangers, and the gift shop's going to offer in-store specials going on, on some of the unique gifts we have." Ms. Scarantino says something happens to people who visit the Wyler Aerial Tramway State Park. "They just see how beautiful it is. And they appreciate it, and it helps them to want to keep it that way."
