ETHICAL ANGLING: Catching a fish is only one part of the angling equation ... we'll explain on Passport to Texas ... ____________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife Participation in environmental stewardship is something all people have to decide for themselves. "In terms of anglers, how many times have you been to a dock and seen old bait boxes left there?" Ann Miller is the aquatic education coordinator for Texas Parks and Wildlife. She says environmental stewardship is an important aspect of ethical angling. "Have you ever gotten entangled in line that's left on a dock or on the shore. These are not only hazards for people and unsightly, but they're hazards for animals, too. Animals can get entangled in that fishing line and get hooked and so forth. So, yes, it's an ethical thing to pick up after yourself. (laughs) " Ethical angling includes respect for the environment and other people's property. "You can be respectful of property owners. If you're fishing on somebody's land, you're certainly going to leave it the way you found it. You certainly aren't going to fish from anyone else's docks or their property unless you have prior permission. That's certainly the right thing to do."
