TROUT STOCKING2: The wait for trout is over ... we'll explain on Passport to Texas ... ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas ... from Texas Parks and Wildlife Anglers looking for a unique winter fishing opportunity never have to leave the state. Every year from December through mid-march, Texas Parks and Wildlife's Inland Fisheries Division stocks community fishing lakes with eight to ten inch rainbow trout. They are a very good sporting fish and certainly they're good table fare. :04 Todd Engeling coordinates the rainbow trout stocking program for Texas Parks and Wildlife. This year Inland Fisheries will stock approximately 270-thousand of these prized fish. Our district biologists that are scattered around the state make a determination about where the fish go. Over time, they've looked at places where they get the most utilization. Those places where a lot of people like to go fish for them. They get the fish, and they get the most fish. In short, those sites that have more people fishing for them, get more fish stocked in them and get stocked more often. :19 Rainbow trout are great for kids and beginning anglers. Because they'll bite on nearly anything, you can use almost any kind of tackle and bait. Ranging from the most sophisticated fly type applications to light weight tackle with small spinner baits, and even to fishing using a bobber with a variety of different baits. Including just common whole kernel corn. :13 Find the trout stocking schedule on the Texas Parks and Wildlife web site. That's our show ...
