HUNTER ED INSTRUCTORS: Texas Parks and Wildlife is looking for a few good hunters ... details are ahead on Passport to Texas ... ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife If you want to hunt in Texas, you have to pass the class. Hunter education is a mandated law in the state of Texas, like it is in all the other fifty states and ten of the Canadian provinces. That's why Terry Erwin, hunter education coordinator, says the agency is always looking for more volunteer instructors to fulfill what he calls the sixth stage of hunting. "Hunters go through several phases or stages. They like to shoot. They like to limit out. They like to do different methods of hunting. And when they get to the sixth stage of hunting, that's called the give back stage. That's where they take and want to become an instructor to teach the class and give back what they've enjoyed over the years. Any potential applicant who wants to become an instructor can contact parks and wildlife's office for an application and we'll be happy to start that process." Being a hunter education instructor takes dedication and commitment. - weird unedited breath -- "To remain active, they need to teach at least two or three classes per year. And with the number of students that are coming on, desiring hunter education, that's not a very hard thing to accomplish each time." That's our show for today ... supported by the Sport Fish and Wildlife Restoration Program ... For Texas Parks and Wildlife ... I'm Cecilia Nasti.
