SHARELUNKER 2: Land a lunker? Donate it for the good of bass fishing in Texas ... we'll explain on Passport to Texas ... ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas ... from Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Sport Fish Restoration Program ... You say you want to donate that huge largemouth bass you caught to the Budweiser Sharelunker program? Just call Texas Parks and Wildlife's David Campbell. We respond to a call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And we pick them up and we bring them back to the fisheries center. :07 Campbell coordinates the program, now in its 20th year. The program allows fisheries biologists to improve the genetics and size of bass in Texas waters. We sedate this fish, and we collect scales off of it to help us age it. We get the length and the girth, and of course we have a certified weight. And then we get the fish in good health and then we actually try to spawn that fish with another offspring from another sharelunker fish. :15 Hundreds of bass have been donated in 20 years time. We've had 393 lunkers donated to the program as of this morning. Of course, that can change at any time. :07 And it did! The next day, David certified lunker number 394 -- a 15.68 pound largemouth from lake Amistad. By the time you hear this, we may have reached 400! It's a catch of a lifetime - most of the time for these anglers - and we'd like to give a little special attention to the 400th fish. :07 We'll tell you about it tomorrow. Our show is supported by the Sport Fish Restoration Program ... funded by your purchase of fishing equipment and motor boat fuels. For Texas Parks and Wildlife ... I'm Cecilia Nasti.
