HOMEMADE TURKEY CALLS: Calling a turkey is as easy as loading a 35 millimeter camera ... we'll explain just ahead on Passport to Texas. ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife [Turkey call SFX] Calling all turkey hunters ... with spring turkey season drawing near ... it's time to talk turkey - more accurately - talk like a turkey. And all it takes to summon your targets is a little creativity. "This is a turkey call you can easily make out of stuff that you have around the house ... (:04) Texas Parks and Wildlife biologist Ricky Maxey says you first take a 35-millimeter film canister ... and cut out one half of the bottom. " ... then you take a latex glove or a balloon and you cut it square and stretch it where there's a little gap of about an eighth of an inch between the hard plastic and the open area ... take a rubber band and you wrap it around three of four times to hold the piece of rubber and that's going to serve as the reed for the call. (:19) To test out the call, put your top lip across the hard part of the canister and your bottom lip across the open area.. " ... and you blow down on it (blows) ... and that's it."
