GARNER DANCE PAVILION 2: Will repairs at Garner interfere with summer dancing fun ... find out on Passport to Texas ___________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife For 65 years, Garner State Park's pavilion - on the banks of the Frio River - has been the nightly summer meeting place for people who like to dance to the music emanating from its old jukebox. If you can't come to Garner to dance, then why come to the area? :04 Superintendent Craig VanBaarle, (van-bare-lee) is being modest. A construction project is currently underway to stabilize the banks of the river ... ... to keep it from eroding. Every time we have a flood, more and more bank erodes, and it is already starting to cut under some of the foundation around the pavilion. :12 Funds for the $700-thousand dollar project come from Proposition 8 bond monies, approved in 2001. Eventually the cracked and uneven dance floor will also be improved. The Friends of Garner is going to foot the bill, and we're going to put a cap over the dance floor to make it smooth again. :07 While park visitors will not be inconvenienced by the work, people tubing the Frio could be. When they're doing construction and building this wall, they'll have to reroute the river just back a little ways to keep it from up against the bank. And, so folks that are tubing down the river will have to get out and walk around this construction. :13 A small inconvenience to ensure dancers have a safe place to strut their stuff for generations to come. That's our show for today ... for Texas Parks and Wildlife ... I'm Cecilia Nasti.
