DOVE LEASE, 2: Find out if your land qualifies for inclusion in the state's dove lease program ... details ahead on Passport to Texas. ___________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Wildlife Restoration program Landowners who want to participate in Texas Parks and Wildlife's dove lease program are encouraged to call the agency sooner than later. Actually, we want to have this kind of wrapped up by the first of June; so right now is the prime time to call. :05 Vickie Fite, is the Public Hunting coordinator, and she says the process is simple ... just call the toll free number we'll give you at the end of the show ... We'll do a little bit of screening; we'll get their name, their phone number and a some information about the property. Then we will put them in touch with one of our biologists. The biologist - if the land meets the criteria - will follow up with an inspection and possibly a land lease. :12 The agency is looking for properties that are at least fifty acres, with easy hunter access, plus water, a food source and cover to attract the birds. And qualifying landowners will be compensated. The price on the dove leases that the department pays is strictly dependent upon the size of the piece of property, the habitat that's available, the species that are going to be offered. The more species that you involve in the program, and the length that the property is open for hunting, increases the value of the lease. :17 Interested?
