BLUEBIRD LADY: We'll meet a woman whose affection for a little blue bird brings happiness wherever she goes. [sfx ... .bluebird song] If the Bluebird of Happiness had an official human ambassador, it would probably be Pauline Tom. People will see a bluebird and something wonderful happens inside them. For me it conjures up hope. I see the bluebird - it's hope ... happiness." :11 In fact when the Hays County resident noticed that there weren't any bluebirds in her area, she read about how you can attract them with nest boxes ... and as the movie goes, if you built it ... they will come. "And so we put out five nest boxes the first year in Hays County, and the very first year, on March first, I drove into the Church of Christ parking lot where one of the first five nest boxes we put up and there was a pair of bluebirds, and they nested that very first year. I was hoping in five or six years to have bluebirds ... ." :18 In 2001 she helped put together the Texas Bluebird Society, which has now grown to more than 600 members. "The huge majority are people who are putting up their first nest box." :04 Coming up on tomorrow's show, how you can attract bluebirds to your own backyard.
