BIRDING CLASSIC: The Great Texas Birding Classic takes wing later this month ... coming up on Passport to Texas ... ______________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife The Great Texas Birding Classic is a competitive bird watching tournament sponsored by the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory and Texas Parks and Wildlife. It is always held to coincide with spring migration. When the migrants from central and south America are making their way back into North America for their breeding season. :14 Carol Jones works for the Observatory, and coordinates the Classic, which takes place April 22 through 30. Teams of birders compete for the privilege to donate conservation grant monies to protect habitat. If you have a pet project, or a project that's very near and dear to your heart, it's a great opportunity to put a really good team of birders together and go in, so that you can grant cash to that project for them to continue their work. :17 You still have time to put a team together - but you have to do it this week. You can find all the information you need, including downloadable forms, at www.gcbo.org. It is a way for birders just to get out and compete, and become better birders. :06 We'll have more on the Great Texas Birding Classic tomorrow. One thing that is new for this year is the college challenge. :05 That's our show for today. For Texas Parks and Wildlife, I'm Cecilia Nasti.
