OUTDOOR STORIES: JEFF HERSHEY: As a child he visited this state park, but never dreamed one day he'd work there ... details on Passport to Texas Outdoor Stories ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas Outdoor Stories ... from Texas Parks and Wildlife Jeff Hershey oversees education and outreach at McKinney Falls State Park in Austin - in fact, it was one of the first parks he ever visited as a child. I believe it was seventy-eight; my father and I came over to McKinney Falls State Park. And it must have just opened. The paint was probably still drying on the place. But we fished in the lower falls, and caught several catfish, and we released most of them. And I took one of the catfish home and put in my aquarium. It was about eight-inches long, and transported it home in a jar. Put the catfish in the aquarium and kept it for about two years. (laughs) And I think we came back and re- released the catfish into Onion Creek. But that's one of my earliest, state park, vivid, clear memories ... . About eight years old, catching fish at McKinney Falls. And my father was in town visiting me the other day. And it was his first time back to the site since we had caught those fish. And he looked around ... looked around ... and he got a good kick out of coming back here. And it was kind of interesting. :54 Thanks Jeff. Now it's your turn.
