GULF COAST PARKS ROUNDUP: Weekends were made for spending time along the Gulf Cost -- details on Passport to Texas. ___________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife The end of the school year is almost here, and we'd like to suggest engaging, entertaining and even (whisper) educational activities the entire family can enjoy outdoors this month in the Gulf Coast region. Saturdays and Sundays in May, Brazos Bend SP in Needville, offers visitors their choice of activities -- from nature hikes to alligator talks. With a half mile paved nature trail, this site is accessible to mobility impaired individuals. Saturdays and Sundays Galveston Island SP offers visitors a taste of surf and turf. Join local beachcombers Saturday morning exploring sea life. Guides introduce participants to the diverse creatures that live in and near the water. Saturday afternoons, visitors who like to have their feet planted on solid (or at least sandy) ground, may join in a guided hike along the shoreline to learn about the abundant plant life in this unique coastal environment. Alternatively, on Sundays, wade into the wetlands with a park ranger - seine net in hand - to scoop up and identify the myriad creatures that inhabit this important habitat. And, if you take the family fishing at Lake Texana in Edna, stay for their Saturday nature programs at 10 and 2 at the amphitheater. Log onto the Texas parks and Wildlife website for details for these and other events. That's our show for today. Thank you for joining us. For Texas Parks and Wildlife ... I'm Cecilia Nasti.
