JUNE BIRDS: Summer's here ... time to introduce the family to birding ... on Passport to Texas ___________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife What's wonderful about Texas? The wonderful thing about Texas is that someplace in the state - all the time - there's something wonderful going on. :06 Especially when it comes to birding. Madge Lindsay, executive director of Audubon Mississippi, was instrumental in creating the Great Texas Birding Trail when she worked for Texas Parks and Wildlife. She says June in Texas offers myriad birding opportunities. In June you've got a lot of neo-tropical migratory birds in the state breeding. And these are the birds that come winter in Mexico and Central America and they come up in the summer and they breed in the woodlands and the habitats and then they return in the fall and winter. :14 A family birding adventure is easy and inexpensive. If a family got their children out with some binoculars and a field guide , and went to a state park, and went out early in the morning and just listened to the dawn chorus; just stopped to listen what's going on out there, and heard the birds singing ... That's the best place to start. :15 To find state park birding opportunities near you -- log onto the Texas Parks and Wildlife Website. That's our show for today ... thank you for joining us ...
