PARK HOSTS, 2: If you have an RV and a willingness to help out at a state park, we've got a gig for you ... just ahead on Passport to Texas. ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife. How do you spend your summer vacation? Relaxing by a pool? Playing golf? Hiking? What if we told you could do all of those in while volunteering at a state park? "Last year we had over 170,000 hours of volunteer labor contributed by our park hosts." :04 That's Texas Parks and Wildlife's Kevin Good. The agency's Park Hosts program provides volunteers with a campsite and hook-ups while they are serving the park. "We have them working in the office, we have them working along side rangers, doing maintenance. We have a lot of skill trades that end up coming back and working for us. People like electricians and plumbers that just fit right in to the kinds of things we need ... we try to match the skills and interests of the hosts to the needs of the park." :18 Currently there are several state parks in need of hosts, and some even allow for more than one on-ground volunteer at any given time. "We always need more hosts in the summer, during our busiest times of the year." :04 If you'd like more information on how to be a park host, log on to the Texas Parks and Wildlife website. That's our show for today. For Texas Parks and Wildlife ... I'm Cecilia Nasti.
