Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife 

Sweeping north from the Rio Grande to San Antonio, the 
South Texas Plains region ranges from rugged brush 
country to rolling green pastures, encompassing the 
missions and historic ranches that form the roots of the 
state's rich natural and cultural heritage. 

Bentsen Rio Grande Valley SP in Mission, the hub of the 
World Birding Center, and in the heart of the South Texas 
plains, offers visitors tram, butterfly and dragonfly tours 
this month, as well as a program that introduces the 
brave to creatures of the night. Reservations 
recommended.

Goliad State Historic site celebrates 75 years in the state 
park system, with a comprehensive exhibit that tells the 
story of Mission Espiritu Santo from Spanish Colonial 
times to present. Viewing daily during regular park hours.

Government Canyon State Natural area, near San Antonio 
is a great place to bring the family for an outdoor 
excursion ... such as one their guided natural fitness hikes, 
or their exploring the canyon guided hike. The tour is 
free, minus entry into the site. It's first come first served, 
and space is limited.
