TPWD TV - LOSING GROUND: Texans are losing their connection to the land ... hear about it on Passport to Texas ... ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife Urban sprawl is severing Texans' connection to the land. Later this month the Texas Parks and Wildlife television series airs a story on this life-changing phenomenon. "It's a phenomenon that's going on everywhere surrounding metropolitan areas, and this story profiles a number of people who that is happening to." Ron Kabele is a series producer. "With all the urban sprawl that's going on, especially around Fredericksburg, which is where they live, it's going to be harder and harder for them to keep that land together." They are the Jordan family, you'll meet them on the show, and learn how land that's been in their family for more than 130 years is being overtaken by sprawl. "Well, I think it's just gonna be a continuing process of chop ... chop ... chop ... making places smaller. I often wonder what would happen to the place after we're gone, you know. A person can't help but wonder about those things." "With the population of Texas doubling in the next thirty years, it's going to be harder and harder for these large parcels of land around metropolitan areas to stay intact; and this has a affect on the families who are very tightly connected to their land - and they're seeing that slip away." Check your local television listings to find out where and when the show airs in your town. That's our show for today ... For Texas Parks and Wildlife ... I'm Cecilia Nasti.
