Biologists and others use these areas to educate land owners on how to better manage their properties. Most of the ecological regions in the state have a wildlife management area designated as a research and demonstration area. These areas provide us with the ability to research wildlife populations, different management techniques, and tools specific to those different ecological areas. Dale Prochaska, Kerr Wildlife Management Area biologist. Aldo Leopold is known as the father of modern wildlife management. In 1933, Leopold wrote the central thesis of game management is that 'game can be restored by the creative use of the same tools which heretofore destroyed it- the ax, plow, cow, fire, and gun.' The way that we approach our management program is that we properly apply these tools to the land to provide for better wildlife habitat, overall range conditions, and ultimately healthier ecosystems that serve not only wildlife species, but people as well.
