RED RIVER QUAIL SYMPOSIUM: Find where you can learn about quail management practices ... on Passport to Texas. PTT from TPWD and the SFWR Program Fall begins the quail hunting season across Texas. Learn how to keep this hunter's favorite viable at a special symposium this month. "The Red River Quail Symposium, that's put together by Dr. Fred Guthrie of Oklahoma State University and Dr. Dale Rowlins with the Texas Cooperative Extension with Texas A&M University." Kory Perlichek (purl-ih-check), Wildlife Biologist at the Matador Wildlife Management Area, tells us what to expect. "We will do a field tour at the Birdwell-Clark Ranch. We'll tour the Dale Harvey Ranch. We'll look basically at the extensive practices, like grazing and brush management, at these ranches, but we'll also address some more intensive practices, like supplemental feeding, prescribed burning, disking. The Quail Symposium will highlight how the land owners can improve their property for quail and quail hunting." If you care about the future of quail, this symposium is for you. "Whether you're a quail conservationist, or a conservation group, or a wildlife biologist, or a rancher that's interested in quail habitat management, this is a good place to go."
