NOVEMBER MAGAZINE, 1: Learn about the El Carmen project and its efforts to protect a special place just south of the border ... on Passport to Texas ... ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife A story in the November issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine takes readers across the border for - perhaps -- their first look at an extraordinary place. Associate Publisher Charles Lohrmann. "Big Bend and far west Texas are often the most popular subjects we have in the magazine, but a lot of coverage of the area stops at the Rio Grande. And this month, we're taking our readers across the river into a ruggedly beautiful and biologically diverse area that is covered by the El Carmen Project. "And the El Carmen Project is an international alliance that is making this project work, and protecting a vast area that crosses into Texas in the western boundary of the Black Gap Wildlife Management Area, and the eastern boundary of Big Bend National Park. It has something like four hundred species of plants, two hundred fifty species of birds, eighty species of reptiles and amphibians. And so this article may be the first time a lot of people read about this area, and we have some stunning photographs to go along with it." The November issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine will be on newsstands later this month. Learn how you can subscribe by logging onto the Texas Parks and Wildlife web site.
