NOVEMBER MAGAZINE, 2: Quail hunting and bird dogs get their due in the November issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine ... learn more on Passport to Texas ... ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife Quail and bird dogs top the stories in the November issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine. Associate Publisher Charles Lohrmann. "November is a time when people think about hunting upland birds like quail. And there's an article by Russell Graves called The Cult of the Quail. And quail hunting really does attract a very dedicated bunch of outdoors men and outdoors women. In fact, that moment when the covey first flushes, and the birds take flight, is described as the most intense two seconds in the Texas outdoors. "So, of course, once you talk about quail hunting, you have to talk about upland bird dogs. And we have this great story by Henry Chappell - it's a very personal narrative about his experiences with hunting dogs, and a few suggestions about how to work with dogs and hunting upland game birds. But he opens the story with a really engaging anecdote of one of his earliest memories of being two years old and having two lemon and white pointer puppies in a box; and he mentions the "sweet puppy scent" that is so vivid to him even today." The November issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine will be on newsstands later this month. Learn how you can subscribe by logging onto the Texas Parks and Wildlife web site.
