ARCHERY IN SCHOOLS, 1: Archery in schools is on target ... details on Passport to Texas ... ____________________________________________________________ PTT from TPWD and the SFWR Program If you shot an arrow into the air, and it fell to earth and you knew not where - archery probably got cut from your school curriculum when you were a kid. "Archery in schools used to be a thing we did as kids. But then it kind of lost favor, you know. When things were being kicked out right and left of the school curricula." Steve Hall is education director for Texas Parks and Wildlife. Even if you missed out on archery education, your kids don't have to. "Archery is seeing a resurgence. And as such, the program - the archery in schools program - is becoming extremely popular again, and all the states want to jump on board." Texas is one of those states. Hall says kids don't need to be physically gifted athletes to be become outstanding archers. "Archery is just absolutely one of those fun outdoor adventures that we can all enjoy no matter what our talent level, no matter if we're the quarterback on the football team or if we're the girl that makes straight As. Everyone can do archery, and in this case it's a fun physical education activity that can be even performed in the gymnasiums." We'll have more on archery in schools tomorrow. That's our show ... sponsored by the Sport Fish and Wildlife restoration Program ... working to increase fishing, hunting, shooting and boating opportunities in Texas ...
