CAMPFIRE SING-A-LONG: Roast marshmallows and sing your favorite songs around the campfire ... we'll tell you where on Passport to Texas. (Week of Nov. 6) Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife Singing ballads around a campfire didn't vanish with the old west. It's alive and well at Cedar Hills State Park. And this weekend your family can relive this tradition at the park's Campfire Sing-a-long. Our campfire sing-a-long is just an opportunity for families to get together and sing around the campfire. A lot of people used to do that and learn songs, but they don't have campfire so much anymore. We'll tell them to bring marshmallows with them because we have a marshmallow roast at the end. :12 Linda Dunn is Park Interpreter at Cedar Hills in north Texas, near Dallas. It's just something you look back on as a kid and it brings the family closer together because of the time that they had doing something you normally wouldn't do. That they might think it's silly that their parents are singing or something like that. It's just that bonding experience, and to have other people out there as well, making it a group thing, it kind of brings a little more energy to the campfire. It helps them, you know, build those memories. :19 And what's the most popular tune around the campfire? I know everybody always wants 'Kumbaya.' It's like the most requested song that there is. All the older people remember that but the kids have no clue what it is. So it's really kind of neat that the parents can share that part with their kid. :11 The campfire sing-a-long is this Saturday beginning at 6:30 pm. Don't forget your marshmallows!
