HUNTERS FOR THE HUNGRY, 2: How hunting helps feed the hungry ... Details ahead on Passport to Texas ____________________________________________________________ PTT from TPWD and the SFWR Program It's deer season. And perhaps hunters who harvest several deer would consider donating one of them to Hunters for the Hungry. Hunters for the Hungry is a statewide venison donation program. And it involves individual hunters, meat processors, and then the emergency food providers who get the meat. :12 Pam Robers (row-berz) is with Texas Association of Community Action Agencies. For a minimal fee, participating meat processors will turn the deer into ground meat for hungry Texans. There is a way the processing fee can be waived. One of the things that we've been promoting this year is that we do have nine high schools that are also participating as processors. And if they can, the first twenty-five deer that are donated through a high school program that's training the students for meat processing will be fully covered. And if, hunters are willing to make a little extra effort, and locate one of our high schools or the FFA's in their area that are doing meat processing, that's another way to help the community. :27 Find all the information you need about Hunters for the Hungry, including participating processors, at tacaa.org. So, all the hunters out there, if they bring in that one deer and the still want to go hunting, but don't have the freezer space - go hunting and think of us and donate that second deer. :09 That's our show ... supported by the Sport Fish and Wildlife Restoration Program ... funded by your purchase of fishing and hunting equipment and motor boat fuels.
