HUNTING PHEASANT: Don't keep your dreams of hunting pheasant under glass ... we'll explain on Passport to Texas PTT from TPW and the Wildlife Restoration Program Fewer people hunt pheasant in Texas than they do other game species. Perhaps it's because the pheasant's range is somewhat limited, or the season relatively short. Don't let either of those facts stop you from engaging in this unique hunting experience. Public hunting coordinator, Vickie Fite, says pheasant hunting opportunities exist on public hunting lands - especially in the panhandle. She offers advice to would-be pheasant hunters. Pheasant hunting is one that you're going to do quite a bit of walking in. Also, if you have someone that has a dog - that's a pheasant dog - I recommend going with someone who has a dog to hunt. It's better to hunt pheasant in a group. You're going to have to kind of line up and kind of cover a lot of country. We do have areas up in Floyd county - there are about eighteen areas up there - if you're going to go to that area, they get a lot of use, they had a great success last year with the pheasant season up there. Just do your homework. If you get out there and you see that there are a few cars at that area, if you've looked and you've plotted them out on a map, there's always another area that's just right around the corner. So, here is a chance for quality hunting. You just may have to go a little further to find it. :42 Visit the Texas Parks and Wildlife website for a list of public lands with pheasant hunting opportunities.
