JANUARY MAGAZINE PREVIEW: Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine's picture perfect anniversary issue ... Details on Passport to Texas ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife Celebrate the New Year and Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine's sixty-fifth anniversary with its January issue. Associate publisher: Charles Lohrmann. Well, 2007, marks the 65th year of Texas parks and Wildlife magazine. And we'll be commemorating that milestone throughout the year. For the January issue, we have an article on Orville Rice. He's the self-taught artist, whose distinctive wildlife illustrations created a unique identity for the magazine in the 40s and 50s. We have several of the covers of the magazine which was then called Texas Fish and Game magazine. Rice was acknowledged as one of the top wildlife artists in the country at that time. And he created a significant body of work that's closely identified with the magazine. Another artist who has more recently made a significant contribution to the magazine's identity is photographer Wyman Minzer. And we have a beautiful collection of his photographs in the January issue. And the cover is particularly amazing. It's a photograph of a gray fox, eleven feet up in an agave plant. Turns out the fox was there to eat bees. :60 The January issue of the magazine is on newsstands now.
