INDIAN LODGE: An extensive facelift returns Indian Lodge to historic splendor ... details on Passport to Texas. Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife Everything new is "old" again at one of the state's most beloved historic inns, Indian Lodge. We actually were able to upgrade the septic lines, the plumbing, and the heating and cooling systems, but were also able to bring back the interiors to look more like they did during the 1930s, as the original intent by the CCC. :11 David Bischofhausen (bish-off-howzen) manages the Davis Mountains State Parks Complex. The first fifteen rooms were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 30s; 24 more rooms were added in the 60s. The renovation took five years and $4.35 million to complete. The two-phase project began in 2001 and ended in July 2006. We had a grand reopening back in October. And we had two members of the CCC boys here, and we honored them. And, I guess what I'm most proud of is the fact that as a department, as close as possible, we were able to replicate the original intent of the CCC - the rustic historic feel of what was originally intended back in the 30s. And those two guys, they were just beaming. They were just beaming. Because they said, 'Yeah. You did it right.' :24 Indian Lodge is considered the "crown jewel" of the CCC structures in Texas. We stuck to our mission statement for enjoyment of present and future generations. The work that was done here is going to last a long time. It was done right. :08 Find out how to make reservations at Indian Lodge when you visit the Texas Parks and Wildlife website. That's our show for today ... For Texas Parks and Wildlife ...
