A game warden on horseback. This month the Texas Parks and Wildlife television series takes you along as two wardens keep the peace on the high plains. Bruce Biermann is a writer/producer with the series, and tells us about this segment titled Four Legs and Four Wheels. Four Legs and Four Wheels is a story for the PBS television series about the game wardens doing a patrol by horseback. I highlight Mokey McCreary and Mark Collins. This is the only horseback patrol in the whole state, and it happens opening day of mule deer season in the Canadian River Basin, just north of Amarillo. (Truck engine) You know, through the years I've found out that a lot of times - even with our modern vehicles -- I can get more done off of four legs than I can four wheels. And, they said it might get kind of Western. And I said, 'Good. You go on ahead and I'll catch up. Luckily it never did. The hunters that we ran across had very minor violations. (Horse whinny, and activity in background) Mornin' guys. A horse enables you to get so close to 'them so quick, they don't hear you. (Can I see everybody's hunting license) So, you're able to use basically a stealth fighter of the eighteenth century to catch people, which is really kind of unique. It really works. (Thank you sir.
