STATE OF SPRINGS2: The most trusted man in America weighs in on Texas' water issues ... details coming up on Passport to Texas ... (Feb. 14) ____________________________________________________________ Passport to Texas from Texas Parks and Wildlife This is Walter Cronkite ... :02 Walter Cronkite, former CBS Evening News Anchorman, lends his voice and reputation to another of Texas Parks and Wildlife's documentaries on key water issues. Lee Smith is producer of Water Projects. Obviously, Water Cronkite lends legitimacy to the issue. And he's not doing this lightly. He considers himself a Texan. And, even though he lives in NYC, Texas is still near and dear to his heart. :15 The hour-long documentary, Texas the State of Springs, examines the alarming decline of Texas' natural springs. Walter Cronkite. The citizens of Texas should watch this program. This is an important matter - the salvation of our water supply. And, each citizen should understand the necessity and the value of all the water sources in our state. Each of them is important. :18 Cronkite recalls Austin's Barton Springs -- which he frequented as a student at UT Austin. It is a beauty spot, and a recreational spot. It's wonderful to sit on the edges of the water. And it's a great spot to swim in. It's a great spot to woo in (laughs) as it turns out. As, perhaps, a few people who've been to Barton Springs will recognize. :19 Texas the State of Springs airs at 8 p.m. Thursday, February 15, on PBS stations statewide. Check your local listings.
