WILDLIFE RODEO: Not all the bucks will come from the broncos at this rodeo ... details on Passport to Texas ... (Feb 22) ____________________________________________________________ PTT from TPWD and the Wildlife Restoration Program As a rule, we don't talk about rodeos on this program. But, rules were made to be broken ... because this year the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at will feature a Ranching and Wildlife Expo February 27 though March 1 at Reliant Arena. We've got vender booths, speakers, and then a wildlife auction across a three day time period. :05 David Forrester is a wildlife biologist based in LaGrange. The Rodeo and the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raiser's Association approached Parks and Wildlife to develop the Expo. One of the main gists is to help people learn how they can integrate their cattle and wildlife management. Obviously it's all habitat based. :09 Cattle raisers have shown an increasing interest in managing their property for wildlife. But you don't have to raise cattle to walk away with useful information. As far as the presentations go, we've got TPWD employees and private biologists giving talks. We've got things ranging from feral hog trapping. We've got John Thomas with Wildseed Farms is going to come and talk about planting wildflowers. We've got habitat management for biodiversity and nongame birds. We've got a wildscape talk, and then we get into supplemental feeding of white-tailed deer. :23 For a full schedule of events, go to rodeohouston.com. We'll have more on the Expo tomorrow. That's our show for today ... supported by the Wildlife Restoration Program ... helping to fund the operations and management of Texas' wildlife management areas ... For Texas Parks and Wildlife ...
