WILDLIFE RODEO 2: This livestock show and rodeo just got more interesting ... details on Passport to Texas ... (Feb 23) ____________________________________________________________ PTT from TPWD and the Wildlife Restoration Program Livestock shows and rodeos are fairly predictable - until now. This year the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, in partnership with the Texas Southwestern Cattle Raiser's Association and Parks and Wildlife will host a Ranching and Wildlife Expo February 27 through March 1 at Reliant Arena. It's covering everything from specific white-tailed deer to just biodiversity and non-game birds. :06 David Forrester is a wildlife biologist based in LaGrange. He says cattle raiser's interest in managing for wildlife is not new. This is something that's been growing for quite awhile. A lot of cattlemen - I think traditionally, you know - wildlife has been part of their thoughts. But I think actively managing for it has been a growing trend here for the last several years. :13 There's plenty on tap during the three days, including informative presentations and fascinating displays, for anyone who loves the Texas outdoors. The Kerr WMA has their antler display; the JD Murphree WMA is bringing their alligator trailer. We will have a laser shot system set up; we'll have the operation game thief trailer; and then we're going to have a Texas Big Game Awards/Texas Wildlife Association booth; and a Becoming an Outdoor Woman slash Family booth. :20 Artwork, fishing trips, hunts, and a birding trip will be auctioned off as well.
