Annual Crab Trap Cleanup

Abandoned crab traps in the gulf can still capture 
marine animals, which costs lives and dollars. The 
annual Crab Trap Cleanup, February 15th through the 
24th, works to reduce the loss.  
It’s the only time the public can legally remove 
derelict crab traps from gulf waters.
The big cleanup day is on February 16th, when 
roughly 20 coastal sites will provide disposal 
facilities, tarps, gloves, crab trap hooks and other 
items to help volunteers remove troublesome traps.
